We are pleased to announce that Gustavus Technology Services is providing a CrashPlan PROe online cloud backup service for Gustavus-owned computers.

Once you install CrashPlan PROe, this will back up your data from anywhere you have an internet connection, and is replacing the external (or extra internal) hard drive backup solution. You will no longer need to use the the external backup drive after setting up CrashPlan PROe on your computer. CrashPlanPROe will also allow staff and faculty to use their credentials to back up student stations, workstations in faculty labs, or any other Gustavus owned machines.

By default, the GTS CrashPlan PROe service will back up the entire system drive to the CrashPlan PROe cloud, excluding certain file types and directories. If you are unsure where your data is located, please contact the Technology Helpline to schedule an appointment to configure CrashPlan PROe.

Network Maintenance – Friday, December 19th

Gustavus Technology Services will be performing network maintenance on critical systems Friday, December 19 at 4:45 p.m.   Internet access, email, and the Gustavus website will be unavailable for approximately 45 minutes.

Wireless Updates and Changes

This summer the Gustavus wireless network has undergone several updates to improve coverage, speed and security.  In order to further improve our wireless network, we are in the process of modifying the wireless networks available on campus.  As soon as possible, please connect your devices to one of the new wireless networks.  The new wireless networks available are:

GustavusSecure
This is a secure wireless network that will require your Gustavus email username (without @gustavus.edu) and password to connect.

Gustavus
This is an open wireless network.

GACWireless and GACSecure will be disabled on September 10th.  Please ensure your device is connected to one of the new wireless networks before this date.

Microsoft Security Advisory for Internet Explorer

Microsoft has released a critical security patch for Internet Explorer. We recommend running Windows Update as soon as possible to ensure your computer is protected from this exploit.
