We are pleased to announce that Gustavus Technology Services is providing a CrashPlan PROe online cloud backup service for Gustavus-owned computers.

Once you install CrashPlan PROe, this will back up your data from anywhere you have an internet connection, and is replacing the external (or extra internal) hard drive backup solution. You will no longer need to use the the external backup drive after setting up CrashPlan PROe on your computer. CrashPlanPROe will also allow staff and faculty to use their credentials to back up student stations, workstations in faculty labs, or any other Gustavus owned machines.

By default, the GTS CrashPlan PROe service will back up the entire system drive to the CrashPlan PROe cloud, excluding certain file types and directories. If you are unsure where your data is located, please contact the Technology Helpline to schedule an appointment to configure CrashPlan PROe.

To learn more or set up your CrashPlan PROe backup, please visit the following page:

If you have questions or concerns regarding CrashPlan PROe, please contact the Technology Helpline at 507-933-6111 or

Allow me to introduce myself…
Posted by on 19 May 2015 09:56 AM

Hi! Since I am new here, I think introductions are in order! :) I am Marni Dunning and I started May 1 as the Associate Director of Instructional Services. I am SUPER excited to be here and honored to be part of such a great College!

Playing with Google Glass :)

In my role, I will assist faculty (and staff) with the use of technology in the classroom, whether it is face-to-face or a blended class using Moodle. I come with 7 years of academic experience as an Instructional Technologist from Minnesota State University Mankato (MSU). At MSU I worked with faculty one-on-one to help them determine what types of technology worked best with their goals and objectives for their course.  I also met with departments and colleges to find where there were gaps in technology training and then facilitated custom classes to bridge those gaps.

I am excited to bring that same type of support to Gustavus. I am a tech tool gal and when you mix that with good teaching methods, the result is engaged students that are enjoying the technology that is integrated into your teaching.

If you would like to meet to talk about how we can integrate technology into your class, please contact me! I would love to brainstorm with you!

WebAdvisor and Cookie Issues
Posted by on 21 April 2015 03:38 PM

Registration for Fall 2015 is in progress! The Technology Helpline would like to remind users how to avoid cookie problems with WebAdvisor, or resolve them when they occur.

A cookie is a small piece of information stored locally, on your machine, by a website, to help the site remember you later. Browsers limit the size, total number and other specifications for cookies.

Close Window

Occasionally, WebAdvisor (WA) users report problems and error messages regarding cookies.  Each time a user opens a new browser window or tab in WA, a new cookie is created.

For WA to properly remove cookies, users must use the CLOSE WINDOW button on the page.  If you close the WA window by clicking the X in the top of the window or tab the cookie will not be removed.  If you open and close (without using the CLOSE WINDOW button) enough windows you will receive a message that says the maximum number of cookie values has been reached.  To resolve this problem, close all open windows and tabs, using the CLOSE WINDOW button, log out of WA and restart your browser.

For help removing cookies and other cached information, please see the Gustavus Technology Services wiki page about deleting browser cookies, or clearing browser cache.
